Direct answer
Choose one primary damage or control plan, then take modules and upgrades whose tags, triggers, cooldowns, range, and firing positions reinforce it without giving up the movement and survival the map demands.

Build around a coherent plan
Judge the whole loadout. A strong-looking card can underperform when its range, targeting, cooldown, or area coverage does not fit the encounter.
Record what actually happened
Log the version, vehicle, captain, artifacts, crew, four module slots, upgrade sequence, map, bosses, damage share, damage taken, overtime duration, and failure cause before classifying a component.
Two launch-week case studies
These recorded runs demonstrate damage-family specialization. They are reproducible examples, not rankings.
